Welcome to Mundane Magic
Creative freedom — that’s what this is all about.
Turning the daily mundane into something cinematic, trying things out, failing, and keeping at it.
It’ll centre around photo and video — lighting, edits, experiments — but always about creativity first. This is written in my own way, which isn’t really a style at all. There’ll be mistakes — and that’s the point. I’m embracing them.
No algorithms, no pressure, no “shoulds.” Just making things, because making things feels good.
This space is for me — and maybe for anyone else who needs a reminder that it’s fine to create for yourself.
Blog 01 - Floyd. Big Walkies.
It all begins with an idea.
Never thought I would have started writing a blog. Not sure why I am drawn to start this now given the many formats people communicate with nowadays. One reason might be that I’m getting a bit tired of social media, it’s doesn’t have the same “social” aspect to it anymore. I want to start spending more time on one topic, delving deeper and understanding something more than surface level. I am very guilty of this, I am aware of it more now.
So I think more than anything that’s why I thought I would start this blog, in my own writing style. Full of mistakes, nonsense and creativity. Unapologetic. It will be creatively focussed, photography and video mostly. Why not start with the thing that makes me happiest in life, my wee pug Floyd(and my wife obviously). Floyd is 13 years old this January(2026). Every wee moment with him is pretty special, that wee guy has changed our lives, sometimes helped us to chill out when we really needed it, he knew we did, we didn’t. Well that’s what it felt like. He is hilarious and full of energy, if I could make a living just filming and photographing him everyday I would. There will be no set parameters to this blog, I will be posting exactly when and what I want, feels quite refreshing without the pressure of having to be on a social platform constantly.
This one is to Floyd. So when all 3 of us are looking out the window at the weather we are assessing is it “Big Walkies” weather? If it is then we all head out and these walks are almost therapeutic. We take it mostly at Floyd’s pace, no looking at phones etc just watching him as he saunters about circling every lamp post and sniffing every blade of grass. With that in mind the other day it was particularly ideal “Big Walkies” weather, so I thought I would bring the camera along and make it a wee cinematic shoot dedicated to the big man. Here are some of the shots, hopefully his wee personality comes across, I hope you enjoy…..
“Big Walkies” with Floyd.
I love to create a cinematic feel to my photography, firstly in camera then the grade and finally some typography.
